La Rochelle… boosting innovation
Ever conscious of the important role of innovation for business competitiveness, as a means of technological progression and as added value, the conurbation has made innovation one of its priorities in terms of business support.
The conurbation has set up a dedicated department whose role is to identify and support innovative projects being developed by local businesses.
In the Poitou-Charentes region, a third of all innovative projects supported by OSEO are from the La Rochelle conurbation, with some €2m being allocated each year to assist such projects.
The La Rochelle conurbation has set up a business competition, unique in France, called PULPE®. Co-financed through European funding (€200 000), every year the scheme launches a ‘call for entries' giving some 30 businesses the opportunity to call on higher education students (from the University or La Rochelle's engineering school EIGSI) to help them bring their innovative technological projects to fruition.
Through a strong network of exchanges and partnerships, many synergies are developed between our partners in innovation, centres for technological transfer, incubators and seedbed centres and research and higher education with each player bringing their own area of expertise to the table.
In addition there are schemes in place to identify these innovative projects as well as to assist them in securing funding through regional or national organisations (OSEO and RDT).
